Neck pain

Neck pain is a common condition that affects people of all ages and lifestyles. It refers to discomfort, stiffness, or soreness in the cervical spine, the upper part of the spine that supports the head and allows movement. This pain can range from mild irritation to severe, disabling discomfort that interferes with daily activities.€

One of the most common causes of neck pain is poor posture, especially from prolonged use of computers, smartphones, or improper sleeping positions. Muscle strain, ligament sprain, or sudden movements can also lead to acute neck pain. In some cases, underlying medical conditions such as cervical spondylosis, herniated discs, or nerve compression may be responsible.

Symptoms often include stiffness, reduced range of motion, headaches, and sometimes pain that radiates to the shoulders or arms. In severe cases, numbness or tingling in the arms may occur, indicating nerve involvement.

Treatment depends on the cause and severity. Mild cases can be managed with rest, heat or cold therapy, gentle stretching exercises, and over-the-counter pain relief medications. Physiotherapy is often recommended to strengthen neck muscles and improve posture. In more serious cases, medical intervention such as prescription medications or surgery may be required.
